Hey y'all, man, its been a while since i've posted anything, well anything of any real thought or story behind it. Anywayz, after laboring away till 5 in the morning, i'm in one of those moods where you're juss tired but can't fall asleep, which for me, transforms me into some kind of philosophical (but not in the philosophy kind of way) thinking dude.
So, as i was laying on my bed not 5 mins ago, i thought back to senior year in high school, about that time when we were about to graduate any everyone was saying how in college, you have the chance to change who you are and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. back then i was like "man, how cool is that? i can be one of the 'cool' kids." now i know you're saying to urself "man eric was a cool kid in high school" and "if eric wasn't cool, then what was i?????" hahah jk. ssooooo anywayz, i've come to the realization that that saying "u can change urself to be whatever u want to be" is completely, false, well not completely. i mean u do occasionally have those people who absolutely hated their lives in high school, but they are more the exception than the rule. but anywayz, getting to my point, i've found that people generally stay who they are, i mean, ya people do change a bit, but only because of the environment. the people that do think they've changed a whole lot juss don't realize that that "new" person is juss the old personality, with a little kick. in essence a the potential we had in high school to become what we are now. juss think, in high school, we had restrictions, well at least most of us did. those restrictions were lifted right as we entered college, more specifically the dorm life. we made new friends (a few or a lot) and we had new experiences that might not have been possible while we were in high school. most likely, had those experiences happened in high school, i think i would have turned out the same. granted, if my parents had let me drink, i might not be such an alcoholic now.....well not alcoholic, cuz i don't depend on it, but its nice
so after all that convoluted psycho babble, so like Socrates in Plato's Republic (see philosopher!) i'll sum it all up in one sentence: a person's character doesn't change because he or she wants it to; rather, the surroundings we live in mold and shape our lives in ways we couldn't forsee.
